Road Trip June 2026 - Wyoming - Part 2

In Sheridan, we stay at the historic Sheridan Inn and enjoy going to the Sam Mavrakis fishing pond. There are always birds and other interesting creatures to see. Whether or not I get any good photos is another question! 

On the way back to Five Springs, the Burgess Junction Visitor Center has a short hiking trail nearby with great spring flowers and, with luck, a few other creatures. 

We often see moose along this stretch of road, close enough to get a few acceptable photos.  

Back at Five Springs, the wind was still not cooperating but we held out hope and, in the meantime, drove further into Big Horn Canyon. On the Rangers Delight Trail, these sheep were pretty chill as we carefully approached for photos. 

This area is well known for wild horses and the Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center is located in Lovell.  In all our trips here, we'd never seen them until now! These ones were fairly close to the road so we stopped and admired them. So beautiful! 

After finally giving up on the wind allowing Andrew to paraglide, we took one last short hike up Five Spring Canyon.

And got one last view of this colourful vista. 

Road Trip - June 2025 - Sheridan

With rain and wind forecast for a couple days (which fell nicely into the half way point of our stay at Five Springs), we drove the 1 1/2 hour scenic route over the Burgess Pass to spend a night at Sheridan. We stayed at the Sheridan Inn, another very nice historic hotel. 

Friendly rabbit that was around the hotel quite a bit. 

One thing I really love about Sheridan’s downtown is all the sculptures on every block. I just took a couple photos of them because I’d already taken so many of them last year. 

We spent a good part of our time in Sheridan at the Sam Mavrakis "fishing pond" where we took far too many photos of the bullfrogs, red winged blackbirds, turtles and ducks. 

On the way to and from Five Springs, we saw several moose and got a few photos of the ones close to the road. 

Road Trip June 2024 - Sheridan, Wyoming

The Sheridan Inn is another beautifully restored historic hotel. It opened in 1893 and, of course, its most famous guest was "Buffalo Bill" Cody. Over the years, the hotel closed and, for a time it was an office building. Thankfully it was purchased again in 2013, renovated and updated back to a hotel. Each room is named after a character from Bill Cody's life. Our room was named after "Death Valley" Scotty. 

We went downtown both for coffee and for supper. Main Street features some really nice, and interesting, sculptures. A lot of them had an "old west" theme but there were also lots of animal ones that we really liked. The sun angle wasn't the best for some of these so a few are not the greatest photos but at least they give an idea of how nice these were. 

This lizard was on one side of this, with the snake on the other.

The poor squished frog on the bottom! :-)

Without the foggy conditions we had on the way there, the drive back was very scenic. We stopped at this overlook where there is a paragliding launch and a nice landing zone below. Conditions weren't quite right for Andrew to fly.
