Road Trip - June 2025 - Yakima to Five Springs

From Tacoma, we continued to head to Wyoming for Andrew to paraglide at Five Springs (near Lovell, WY).

At Yakima Sportsman State Park and Campground there's a wetlands trail and we saw lots of red winged blackbirds in the marsh. They were a bit far away for my camera but I managed to get a few reasonable ones.

Yellow Iris in the marsh.

We stopped for coffee in Connell, WA, a small town along the way and a poker game broke out in the middle of the sidewalk! (A frog, a duck, a racoon and a beaver.)

We then headed to Three Forks, Montana and, since we were to early to book into our hotel, went for a walk at the Missouri Headwaters State Park where the Madison, Jefferson and Gallatin Rivers all meet. We were lucky to spot a marmot who was quite cooperative as long as we kept our distance.

We stayed the night at one of our favourite historic hotels, the Sacajawea. We enjoyed our welcome glass of champagne on the patio, I did a workout on the back lawn, and we enjoyed a great meal at the restaurant.

I didn't take many photos of the hotel this time since we've stayed here so many times before. Andrew looked back at his blog posts and learned it's been 10 years since we started stopping here. We found it by accident, actually looking for another hotel that we couldn't find. We recognized our restaurant server from previous trips and learned she'd been working there 10 years.

From there, we headed on to Five Springs with a stop at the Big Horn County Visitor's Center in Lovell, WY, to have our lunch by the pond. Unfortunately, the pond is dry at the moment so there weren't as many birds around as there usually are.

As we were leaving the Visitor's Center, Andrew noticed this nest of baby birds just outside the main door!
