Belize 2024 - Saint George's Caye

After 10 days at Turneffe Island we went to Saint George's Caye. The plan was to scuba dive more but after nine straight days of diving at Turneffe, we were quite exhausted! Plus, we realized how spoiled we'd been at Turneffe with good weather, excellent dive masters, 5-10 minute boat ride to the dive sites, surface intervals back on land, and an extremely well organized system.

At Saint George's Caye, the weather had been very windy which meant no diving the last couple of days and other guests who were there to dive were anxious to get out there. This meant 12 divers plus two dive masters on one boat. We weren't sure how this was going to go so we decided to leave our cameras behind so we had one less thing to deal with. It was a rough 20 minute boat ride out to the dive sites. The way they were set up for getting that many people in and out of the water actually worked quite efficiently. The  visibility under water wasn't great though; the dive master we had pointed out nothing to us; and the hour+ long surface interval on the boat between dives was a roller coaster ride.

After this, we decided we'd had enough diving for the trip. We did lots of other activities though and arranged to head back to Belize City a few days earlier than planned.

Our cabana at Saint George's Caye

Outdoor, covered dining area with ocean in the background.

We aren't very good at getting photos of the two of us so this was one of very few photos on this trip!

The bar area. First rum punch on the house each day.
We found a friend who joined us for one of our daily walks.
Coconuts fell from the tree overnight.

Wouldn't want one of these to land on your head!

We were walking along the beach and saw two dolphins swim by! Quick photos and only a couple turned out somewhat decently.

Lots of little lizards.

And a few bigger iguanas. This one had a humorous pose up in a tree.

One afternoon we went out for a fun ride on a hobie cat.
(Photo is of the couple who went out just before us.)

Kayaks were also fun to use one morning.

So peaceful wandering through the mangroves.

And the oddest thing we saw was an old telephone! No, it doesn't work any longer. :-)
